Aart Amerongen, aged 91 years, beloved husband to Kathy, of Whitemouth, Manitoba, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Beausejour Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Kathy of 66 years; children Aart (Judy), Linda, Walter (Ginette), Beverly (Calvin), George, Eddie (Kim); grandchildren Derek (Ann-Marie), Gwen (Justin), Domonic (Liane), Lorne (Brenda), Tyler (Monique), Evan (Maryann), Ian (Cassie), Natalie, Nathan (Delaney), Emma, Rowan; twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great -granddaughter; four sisters; two brothers; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers-in-law; four sisters and one brother.
Aart was born in 1933 in Woudenberg, Utrecht, Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 with his parents and nine children. They settled in St. Eustache and in 1954 moved to Whitemouth. Aart worked various jobs including CPR, and construction, blasting crew in Ontario. Kathy and Aart met in West Hawk Lake in 1956 and married in 1958. In the fall of 1958, they moved to Whitemouth, and he started working at Western Peat Moss, now Sun Gro Horticulture, and retired from there in 1998.
After retirement, he liked doing carpentry projects and ice fishing. He enjoyed winter activities and gardening in the summer; he also was an avid sports fan; hockey, football, European soccer and you dare not speak when sports was on the T.V.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 ,at 11:00 a.m. at the Whitemouth Hall, in Whitemouth, Manitoba
