Adeline Pickering

October 2, 1932 — November 2, 2019

October 2, 1932 ~ November 2, 2019

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the age of 87, at her new home in the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home.

Mom was born on October 2, 1932 in Canora, Saskatchewan to parents, Joe and Annie Twerdochlib.  She will be lovingly missed by her daughters, Heather (Bill) and Carol (Dodie);  sons, Keith (Carol), Ian, Rob (Gail) and John (Ewa); grandchildren, Josh, Michael, Vanessa, Michelle (Chris), Joel (Melissa), Chris, Nicholas (Daniela), Georgeann (Cole), Cameron, Lily and Lauren; as well as great-grandchildren, Alina, Anna and Ryder.

Mom was predeceased by her husband George in 1967; brother Leonard; father Joe; mother Annie; sister Veronica and brother Ron.

Mom had a tough life, losing her husband George over 52 years ago at the age of 33, and leaving her with 5 children under the age of 10 to raise on her own.  She worked hard to make sure all our needs were met, and together with the support of our grandparents, Joe and Annie, we were well loved and cared for.

Mom’s faith and love of God was what got her through the tough times.  She lived her life with an easy-going outlook and loved to help out where she could.  She was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish since it was established in 1960, until she moved to supportive housing in Pinawa in July of 2018.  She also belonged to the Catholic Women’s League.

After graduating from high school, mom went on to train to become an X-ray Technician.  The majority of her career, until retirement, was spent working at the Health Sciences Centre.  She enjoyed travelling to explore new places and visit family and friends.  One of her great passions was food.  She loved going out for meals and treating her family on special occasions.  She always said, “I’m so glad I never lost my appetite.”

We will miss her and her beautiful ways, her words, and her acts of kindness.

Many thanks to Dr. Bruneau, Dr. Papetti, the staff at the Ironwood and the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home for all the care and compassion they showed towards our mother.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 505 Brewster Street, Winnipeg, with interment to follow in the Transcona Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba https://www.cancercare.mb.ca/home/ or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Manitoba. https://www.heartandstroke.ca/get-involved/donate
