August 16, 1942 to January 21,2010
Shortly before dawn on January 21, 2010, surrounded by his family, the Lord called home his faithful son, Alain Ernest Chevrefils, after his second battle with cancer.
Born in Pine Falls, MB on August 16, 1942, Alain is survived by his loving wife Yvonne (née Vincent), children Michelle (Dale) Berthelette, Donald (Cynthia), Joël (Stacey) and Julie, grandchildren Chantelle, Stéphanie, Robbie, Ginette, Liam, Emma and Megan; siblings Lillian (Henry) Malo, Albert (Alice), Lionel (Dolly); Sister Alice, Romeo (Margaret), Linda (Maurice) Desautels, Maureen (Michel) Bouvier. He is also survived by Yvonne’s parents, René and Antoinette Vincent, in-laws Alex (Yolande), Claire (Yves) Lemire, Pauline (Paul) Bourgeois; Luc (Brenda)and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Hervé and Marie, brothers Donat, Lawrence and Sylvio, sisters in-law Cecile Chevrefils and Colette Vincent.
Alain grew up on a humble farm in the Chevrefils District. Growing up, he was surrounded by the playfulness of his large loving family. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Yvonne. A country boy through and through he started his career in farming with his brothers Donat, Albert and Lionel. He later went into the logging business with his brother in law, Paul Bourgeois, with whom he formed P&A Contracting Ltd, until his semi-retirement at age 65. A traditional Métis fiddler and jigger, Alain had a deep love for music. He spent many summers polishing his musical skills at Emma Lake with his good friends Dave McMillan and Armand Boulet. Sunday breakfasts at the Chevrefils home were not only filled with the delicious smells of Yvonne’s cooking, but of Alain’s jubilant playing. He fulfilled his dream of recording a CD, which include his original fiddle compositions, in October 2009 with the help of Joël and Patti Lamoureux.
He was a strong hearted man who found his strength in his faith and connection to AA which saw him through his 31 years of sobriety. Alain was a devote Catholic and had a sincere devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The family would like to thank Father James Gray, Father Malachy, Drs. Miller, Essa and Hashem, Dad’s homecare nurses Patti-Jo Papineau and Jeannette Mercier and all the wonderful caring staff from the Grace and Pine Falls Hospitals. Your tender care eased both Dad’s pain and ours.
Prayers and viewing will be held Sunday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. – Both services will be held at the Notre Dame du Laus Roman Catholic Church, 38 Laura St., Powerview, MB. Interment will follow at the Notre Dame du Laus Cemetery.
