It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of their father, grandpa and great grandpa, Alec Burlak on Thursday, January 23, 2014.
Alec was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Nathalie. He was also predeceased by his parents John and Mary, and his sister Maria, all of the Ukraine. Left to mourn his passing are his 5 children; Joyce, Anna (Ashley), Ronnie, Jackie, and Paul (Holly). He also leaves his grandchildren; Jackie (Bob) Early, Kelly Nolte, Brad and Jeff Block and Michael and Thomas Burlak; his great grandchildren Mikayla, Matthew, Eric and Celiesia.
Dad emigrated to Canada in 1948. He first went to Komarno, MB and then he went to work farming in Stonewall, MB. After several years of farming and marrying Nathalie, they moved to Winnipeg’s North End. Dad worked at CPR (Weston Shops) where he was employed until his retirement in March, 1989. Before retiring, mom and dad moved to Tyndall, MB where they built a house and enjoyed their retirement.
The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff and Aides at East Gate Lodge (Rose Unit). You all made a very difficult time a little easier for us.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31 at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6th Street and Park Avenue, Beausejour, MB. Prayers will be sung at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
