Anna Boel Nee Anseeuw

JUNE 20,1928 ~ MARCH 5, 2023

Surrounded by her children and grandchildren, Anna passed away peacefully in the wee hours of March 5th at the age of 94.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her daughters Linda Hapko, Deanna Boel, Wendy Boel, and sons Dennis Boel (Linda) and Paul Boel (her fav); 7 grandchildren Shanna, Christopher, Ryan, Danielle, Delaina, Dana and Brendon; 14 great-grandchildren Charles, Walter, Caylee, Trentin, Ethan, Kierra, Hayley, Tansie, Audrey, Gabriel, Dezmond, Lilly, Alyssa and Everett; great-great-grandchild Octavia; sisters-in-law Gwen Anseeuw and Phyllis Anseeuw; as well as many nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her husband Paul Boel, her sons-in-law Charles and Wayne, her grandson Luke, and all 7 of her siblings Mary (George Taillieu), Malvina (Don Acheson), Joseph (Dorene), Peter (Frankie), Gerard, Laurent and Andre. Anna is the last of Hector & Magdelena Anseeuw’s hard working children. 

Those who wish may join the family Friday, March 10th at 11:00 am for a funeral liturgy, viewing and to pay their respects at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour.  A “Celebration of Life” and interment shall be announced at a later date.

A force to be reckoned with, it is difficult to condense Anna’s life into a paragraph. Born in 1928 on a dairy farm in Oak Bluff, MB, which continues in the family to this day.  Anna excelled in math (according to her), loved the church like her mother, and loved a good laugh like her father. Marrying Paul Boel in 1953, she left the family farm to start a busy life that spanned several provinces. Together they started Wendigo Resort in Lac du Bonnet, which was “the” place to go and a Manitoba hotspot. Anna took immense pride in her cooking skills feeding dignitaries from Prime Ministers to The Guess Who, as well as so many guests and families who returned again and again. After losing their hard work to fire in 1971, they moved on to new things. First came Calgary, AB where they operated a large cattle ranch, fish farm, and anything else they could think of. Next was 15 years in Castlegar, BC where Mom once again shone in the High Arrow Arms Hotel and The Fireside Restaurant. It did not take long for the Kootenays to embrace her amazing culinary skills for fine dining, weddings, etc. After the death of her husband Paul in 1984, she retired and later moved back to Winnipeg, MB. Not ready to sit back, she worked at a flower shop ‘for fun’, became heavily involved with The Belgian Club, played hours of bien, crib and Belgian bowling, sang in church choirs, travelled, and spent time and fun with family and friends.

Anna played by her own rules. Her zest for life and a good deal was unmatched. There were no challenges or dares too big for her to take on – never tell her she couldn’t because her response would be “Watch me!” Whatever she took on she always did it to her best. She loved her flowers, music, dancing and nothing more than a laugh. No one, family or friends or even strangers, were safe from one of her pranks or jokes which got her the names Anna Banana, Crazy Aunty Anna, Crazy Grandma and likely others not to be mentioned here but always said with a laugh – and she loved it all. And we loved her.

Gramma, we will forever miss you. Mom, we will always love you.
