After a period of illness, it is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend; Arlene Marie Bohn (nee Hitch) on November 27, 2024 at the age of 71.
Arlene is lovingly remembered by her husband Jim of 52 years, her three children Jason (Catherine), Karl (Roxane), Keith (Lynne Gagnon); her wonderful grandchildren Kain, Ava, Lincon, Sophie and Mylene; her sisters Karen, Theresa, Chris, and Cindy. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret.
Arlene was born and raised in Brighton Ontario and after high school, started her floral design training in St. Catherines, Ontario. To continue her florist training, Arlene moved to Thompson, Manitoba; where she met Jim. Arlene and Jim were married in September 1972 and their first son, Jason, was born the next year. They moved to Winnipeg shortly after and over the next few years had two more boys, Karl and Keith.
In Winnipeg, Arlene continued her work in floral design and started oil painting in her spare time. Painting remained a hobby for Arlene while she opened her own flower shop called “Just the Perfect Place”; the business became her primary focus for many years. After many years of operating the flower shop, eventually it became time to sell the flower shop and move to a little community in Manitoba named Pinawa. Pinawa, a quiet town with natural beauty and a vibrant art community were what attracted Arlene and Jim’s attention; providing time for Arlene to focus on painting and gardening. Arlene became a proud and active member of the Pinawa Art Gallery and developed many meaningful friendships there. Pinawa inspired many other mediums for her art. She started painting glass, jewelry making, and experimenting with other paint combinations. While at the art gallery, she began sharing her knowledge with others by teaching art classes. Arlene also shared her love of art with her children and grandchildren. Her happiest moments were in her home studio with everyone creating an art project. All of this is expressed in her own words: “Sharing my knowledge and experience assures me that my art will continue long after I can create no more”
Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who took care of Arlene at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre.
