Arthur Sommerfeld

With deep sadness the family of Arthur Sommerfeld, age 90 of Whitemouth, announces that Arthur went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024.

Arthur will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife Gerda of 63 years; children Werner (Audrey), Reinhard (Gail), Guenther, Trudy (Chris) and Helga (Dean); 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; brother Horst; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Martha Sommerfeld (nee Kuehn); his stepmother Auguste (nee Kujat); his brothers Reinhard Sommerfeld (Hilde), Ewald (Irmgard), Edmund (Olga); sister Ruth in infancy; grandparents; aunts; uncles; cousins; nephews; great grandson Deegan in infancy; and sister-in-law Elsie.

Arthur was a generous, honest, hardworking soul and would never hesitate to lend a helping hand, something we can learn from him.

He loved fishing, from his favourite locations along the Whitemouth River to secluded lakes hidden deep in the Whiteshell Provincial Park and would never come home empty-handed. He enjoyed watching football and hockey, and listening to music and spending time with his wife, Gerda.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday November 26, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., with a devotional service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel; 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB. A private funeral service and interment will take place at a later date.

Flowers are graciously declined. Donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
