Audrey Dawson passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the age of 96 years, at Red River Place in Selkirk.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sheldon (Nirdosh), Corinne (Tom) of Calgary, Wanda (Kerry) of Beausejour, and Brian (Claire-Anne) of Hay River; her grandchildren, Stacy (Tammy), Evan, Chris, Kurtis (Chelsea), Lindsey (Colin), Carleen (Logan), and Georgia; seven great-grandsons, two great granddaughters and one great great-grandson.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband Bert Dawson; her parents, Harvey & Gertrude Gray; her stepmother Ruby Gray; her brother Arnold Gray and her sister Lorraine Cochrane.
Audrey was born and raised in Hamiota, where she will be laid to rest in Scotia Cemetery alongside her husband Bert and other family members.
Audrey graduated as a registered nurse in 1949 and worked at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB and as a Victorian Order nurse before pausing that career to raise four children.
Audrey married Bert Dawson in 1952 and they raised their family in Winnipeg on Walker Avenue. They moved to Gimli for a short period of time before settling in Beausejour in 1974.
Audrey resumed her nursing career in 1974 at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour where she worked until retiring in 1988.
Audrey and Bert remained in Beausejour until Bert’s passing in 2017 and Audrey continued to reside there until moving to Red River Place in Selkirk in 2024.
Audrey will be remembered as an avid sports fan, particularly of baseball, but also curling, tennis, figure skating, hockey and basketball.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey’s memory to the Recreation Fund at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour.
