Sadly on November 13th, 2021, Barbara Dale Fisher passed away peacefully at age 79 from end stage congestive heart failure at the Beausejour Hospital with her family by her side.
Barbara leaves behind her 4 children; sons Stephen, daughters Aimey and Erin; Scott, children Luke, Jill and Callie; Kent, children Alyssa and Drake; daughter Karen and son-in-law Vince; plus 9 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law Ethel.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents Claud and Hilda Fisher, sister Jean and brothers Clifford and Norman.
Barbara was born April 18, 1942 in St. Lambert, QC. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood where she was doted on by her older siblings. She loved to tell stories about her family, how good they were to her and how lucky she was to have them.
Barbara met and fell in love with Keith Antle and were married in 1960. Unfortunately, after 37 years of marriage they divorced but she kept her vow to love him until the end. They had 4 children while still in Quebec and moved the family to Winnipeg in about 1971 where they settled in East Kildonan where they set deep roots in the community. Barbara was quick to make friends, many of which remain to this day.
Barbara went to work to provide ‘the fun things’ for the kids as they got older. She held positions with CIBC and TD Bank but really came into her own later in life when she became a recreation worker in Whitemouth, then Beausejour and finally Kin Place in Oakbank. She delighted in entertaining the residents by playing the oldies on her piano, telling stories and making French fries with them.
After retiring she suffered her first heart attack and has been fighting for ‘just one more day’ ever since. She had an uncanny knack for bouncing back. A year and a half ago she got the news that time was short. She moved to Tyndall, MB to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She loved country life. Sitting in the sun, watching Karen putter in the yard, the cul-de-sac kids playing in the street, Golf cart rides with the grand dogs, visits from her many new Tyndall friends and most of all her grandchildren and weekend get-a-ways to her son Kent’s. She soaked it all up.
She was not just our mother. She was our best friend, our strongest supporter. Our hearts are broken and we can’t imagine life without her.
Thank you to Dr. Jeff Wiebe for always taking Karen’s calls, Palliative Dr. Clark for the house calls, the Interlake-Eastern homecare nurses and aides for everything they did for our Mom. We couldn’t have kept her happy and at home without you.
Beausejour Hospital has our utmost respect and gratitude for the care provided during her final days. You laughed with her and cried with us. We appreciate everyone there, Dr. Hannah and Dr. Schmidt. So many nurses and HCA’s. Scotty and Dave, thanks for being you.
