1934 ~ 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother and Granny, Bernice Leochko, on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, MB after an 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Bruce (Rhonda) and Carl (Rhonda) and five grandchildren Graham, Megan, Tyson, Ryan and Kaitlyn. She is also survived by her brother Joe Hotz, sister Evelyn (Dennis) Wizniak and brother in-law Peter Kula, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her daughter Cheryl, in infancy, her parents Paul and Frances Hotz, brothers Carl, Stanley, Walter and Eddy Hotz and sisters Louise Leochko and Veronica Kula.
Mom was born on July 1, 1934 and raised in Cooks Creek. She moved to Winnipeg and later to Beausejour with her family, making it her permanent residence. Mom was always a dedicated and hard worker and enjoyed keeping busy. She had many jobs which included home care, catering, housekeeping and the last being a waitress in CFB Winnipeg until her retirement in 1998. Mom was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. One of Mom’s favorite pastimes was cooking and ensuring her family was well fed. We will never forget Mom’s homemade noodles and unbeatable perogies.
Mom was a kind, gentle and caring person who cherished her family dearly. She was a devoted mother, who provided for us with endless care and everlasting love. Mom treasured spending time with each of us, especially playing with and admiring her grandchildren.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of East Gate Lodge for their compassion, kindness and excellent care of our Mom and Granny during her stay. Also, thanks to Dr. Zeiler for the medical care you have provided for our Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or East Gate Lodge.
Funeral Service were held on Friday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with Rev. James Wolf officiating.
Rest in Peace, Mom
