Cheryl Darlene Holmlund (nee) Tompsett

February 4, 1942 — February 18, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cheryl at the Pinawa Hospital on Tuesday, February 18th, following a short battle with acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Cheryl was predeceased by her parents Marjorie and Earl Tompsett and recently by her sister Bonnie. She leaves to mourn her passing beloved husband of 64 years, Dennis; children Connie (Dean) Randell, Shelly (Gary) Arnold and Brad (Connie) Holmlund; grandchildren Matthew (Amanda), Kelsey (Ryan), Jeannie (Lorne), Robbie (Kennedy), Hallee & Marcus and 9 great grandchildren.

Chery was born in Guelph, Ontario later moving to Minnedosa then to Erickson, MB. Dennis and Cheryl were high school sweethearts and married at Clear Lake in August 1960. They lived in Killarney, MB from 1962 – 1968 and then made the move to Pinawa in 1968. They intended to stay for only 6 years but found Pinawa to be a great place to settle and raise their young family.

In the early years of their marriage Cheryl was a stay at home mom. She enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and helped neighbour, Alice Jones run Pinawa’s first at home nursery school. When her children got older, she worked at The Hudson Bay Store (now Solo) and was a receptionist at the Pinawa Medical Clinic.

Dennis and Cheryl enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. The island of Dominica was a particular favourite and they lived there twice when Dennis took teaching positions from 1985 – 1988 and again from 1997 – 2000. Recently winters were enjoyed in Texas, Arizona, California and Florida.

Cheryl enjoyed reading, watching curling, playing cards and knitting. Many people have been gifted her dishcloths and towels over the years. She always had a supply of them with her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Speziali and staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, Dr. Bruneau and the staff at the Pinawa Community Cancer Care Program, nursing staff at the Pinawa Hospital and her family physician Dr. Papetti for all her years of care.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Pinawa Community Cancer Care Program, Box 220, Pinawa, MB R0E 1L0.
