Clara Isabelle Hughes of Anola, MB passed away peacefully at Kin Place Personal Care Home on December 7, 2014 at the age of 96 years. Clara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many.
Clara was born in Winnipeg, MB on March 21, 1918 to Frank and Winnifred Bryan. Clara spent the rest of her life in the Anola area after marrying Allan Norman Hughes.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter Margaret Patricia (Clayton), her sons Robert (Jocelyne), James (Julie), and Doug (Kathy), grandchildren Randy (Faith), Allan (Jason), Brenda (Jay), Sean, Erin (Clay), Lisa (Jason), Rick (Mike), Curtis (Andrea), and Nick (Tawnya), seven great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Barbara and Margaret, brother Harold and four brothers in-law and one great granddaughter. Clara was predeceased by her husband Allan in 1964 leaving her to raise four children all by herself.
She was a homemaker who worked very hard to make a good life for her family. She loved to cook. You never visited without having a cup of tea and some type of dessert. She made and decorated cakes for many Weddings in the area. She was also a member of the Anola Caterers for many years preparing and serving dinners for Weddings and Anniversaries in the area.
Clara enjoyed reading books, doing crossword puzzles and playing bingo. She still read the Free Press from cover to cover until she could no longer do so.
She was very proud of her family as anyone could tell by the walls of pictures she always displayed. Every visit the grandchildren were mentioned. She would always ask how they were doing.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Kin Place in Oakbank for the loving care they provided over the last 3 years. Mom always commented that everyone was so helpful and always with a smile.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour. A private interment will be held at a later date.
