July 3, 1926 to September 4, 2010
Peacefully, with his family at his side, Dad passed away at the Beausejour Hospital on Saturday, September 4, 2010, as the result of an extensive stroke, at the age of 84. He was born in Greenland, MB on July 3, 1926 to Cornelius and Annie Penner, one of a family of 13 children.
He was baptized on the confession of his faith on November 29, 1943 into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. This faith was precious to him and he taught us by word and example to love Jesus and be faithful Christians. He pointed us on the right way to Heaven.
He was married to our mother Dorothy Toews on December 4, 1949. After she passed away in January, 1990, he married Caroline Toews on May 5, 1991. Together, and with Tim, they enjoyed the peaceful life of country living. Our hearts ache to say good-bye, but rejoice that he has gone to a better land.
Dad was a farmer. Together we picked many rocks, chased after cattle and gathered eggs. He often came into the house from the pasture in the morning, cheerfully whistling a tune or singing a song. Money was not his priority in life. He was a friend to all and often visited the lonely and unfortunate ones.
Left to cherish fond memories are: his loving life Caroline; His daughters: Johanna and Ken Giesbrecht, Elma, MB; Margaret, Elma, MB; Donalda and Charles Goossen, Sturgis, SK; Ruth and Gilbert Janzen, Kleefeld, MB; Sharon and Ron Giesbrecht, St. Mary’s, ON; Lois and Charles Penner, Mountain Grove, MO; Tamara Toews and friend Brad Penner, East Selkirk, MB. His sons: Rene and Janice, Berwick, NS; Dennis and Monica, Elma, MB and Timothy of Elma, MB. Also 36 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. There are also 4 brothers and 4 sister and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Whitemouth Mennonite Church. There will be viewing from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour, MB.
