1940 ~ 2014
Surrounded by his loved ones, Earl Swain passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the age of 74.
Earl was born at St. Boniface Hospital on July 20, 1940. He was predeceased by his parents, Ella and Andrew Swain and brother James.
He is survived by his sons, Ian and Ryan, and daughter-in-law Allison (whom he called “daughter”). He was so proud of his grandson, Anderson (“Andy”), who gave him much happiness and joy. He also leaves his brothers: Larry (Carole) and Clare (Betty), and cousin Bob (Linda), along with many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, his passion for sports, his love of reading (especially Zane Grey westerns), and his enjoyment of word puzzles and sudoku. He was happiest in a boat with a fishing rod in his hands, the annual fishing trip to Lake of the Prairies with his sons and brothers being a highlight of his year.
Earl’s entire career was spent with the Royal Bank of Canada giving him the opportunity to live, work and play in many towns across Manitoba and Ontario. After retiring, he spent many years in Deming, New Mexico. There he cared for his walnut and pecan trees, always sharing his bounty of nuts with family and friends. The last few years were spent in his hometown of Boissevain where he had good friends.
Cremation has taken place and he will be interred close to his parents and brother. A celebration of his life will be planned for the summer of 2015.
Rest in peace and breathe easy.
