Edward (Ed) Borkowsky

Peacefully with his family by his side, Ed passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Selkirk Hospital.

His memory will be forever cherished by his daughters Dianna Fosty, Denice (Lloyd) Peacock; grandchildren Joshua (Denise) Fosty, Erin (Ryan) Keefe, Dana (Scott) Jordan and Brittany (Tim) Fulton, great-grandchildren Devin, Danielle, Ashley, Cole, Riley and Claire. He is survived by his sisters Norma (Gordon) Barkman and Bernice (Art) Birzneck and numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lilly, parents Heinrich & Martha, brothers Raymond & Jake (Mary) and son- in-law Richard.

Born & raised in the RM of Hanover (Steinbach). In 1941 he was called up to Canadian Armed Forces, he was stationed at Prince Rupert, B.C. with the 17th Heavy Coast Artillery and served until January, 1946. On June 23, 1944 he married the love of his life Lilly (Fiebelkorn) and in the spring of 1946, they bought a farm in the RM of Brokenhead. As a young person, he was always interested in community and local government. Over the years he served as School Trustee & Secretary Treasurer for the Brokenhead School District; President of the Brokenhead Farmers Union Local; Director of the Beausejour Consumers Co-op, and he was an active member in his local Lutheran church. He was a Councillor for the RM of Brokenhead from 1965 – 1971 and also 1975 – 1986, during this time he served on the Beausejour Hospital Board. Upon retirement Ed & Lilly enjoyed camping and traveling in Canada, USA, Europe and the Holy Land. Ed enjoyed his trips to the farm and was always interested to learn about the new farming techniques. In the last few years he really looked forward to joining the “boys” at the local coffee shop to discuss the local news  & politics, he also spent much of his time reading the newspapers and books mostly biographies. He took great pride and enjoyment in spending time with his family, especially the grand-children and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Garth Campbell for the care he provided as well as all the staff at the Selkirk Hospital.  Also a huge thank you to all his Home Care Workers, dad appreciated each and every one of you.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday January 22, 2015 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Mark Koenker will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Beausejour Town Cemetery. Pallbearers are Lloyd Peacock, Joshua Fosty, Ryan Keefe, Scott Jordan, Tim Fulton and Robert Borkowsky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Box 57, Grp 327, RR#3 Beausejour MB R0E 0C0 or The Arthritis Society #105-386 Broadway Ave. Winnipeg ,MB R3C 3R6.
