1928 ~ 2015
With deep sadness we announce that Edward Fiebelkorn passed away at the age of 87 years on September 18, 2015, at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Edward is lovingly remembered by his daughter Karen (Grant), and sons Mervin (Pam), Allan, and Ross. Edward was predeceased by his loving wife Mary of 43 years, parents Adolf and Amelia, and siblings Mary, Henry, Fredrick, Emma, and Lenora. He is survived by brothers Louie, Albert, and William, grandchildren Tiffany, Curtis, Kayla, Edward and great-grandchild Ashton who enjoyed Christmas parties with him at the home. He was blessed with the extended Endler family whom he spent a lot of memorable times with; including some very special doting sister in-laws. He has many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and two special neighbours who helped him on his journey, Winston and Gayle.
Dad was born on February 28, 1928, in Steinbach, Manitoba, and grew up on the family farm in Lowland. He married Mary Endler in 1955 and raised their children in Selkirk at the family home for many years on McKenzie Road where they had a large yard and garden. Mom and dad enjoyed spending time with many family and friends that came over, entertaining, eating and playing cards. In their retirement years, mom and dad hosted family reunions and enjoyed visiting with distant relatives from far away.
Dad was a mechanic by trade. In his early years along with his brother-in-law Joe Kula they ran their own service station White Rose and a John Deere dealership called Twin Service for a number of years in Selkirk. In later years he worked at other automotive centers in Selkirk and Winnipeg. As dad was a mechanic, he worked at home on many vehicles for family and friends and could fix almost anything with an engine. He was a well known handyman to everyone who knew him.
Dad was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many days out on the lakes trying to catch the big one. Even when there were no roads built yet into some of the lakes, dad along with his sons and relatives were known to cut paths through forests and swamps; haul boats and campers just to be where no one else has fished before. Mom and Dad enjoyed camping and travelling to visit friends and relatives in Canada and the USA and have many pictures of those adventures. There were many summer car trips across the country with children and relatives. On drives through the Brokenhead area where he grew up, he loved to talk about the family farm and how things were back then. He told stories of how it was going to school long ago, hauling wood by horse and sleigh to Lac du Bonnet in the winter, barn dances, and remembering all those who lived on farms along the way.
Dad was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Selkirk for many years and enjoyed participating in church activities and served on council. Dad remained in the family home for a number of years following mom’s passing until unfortunately Parkinson disease took hold of his health. The last few years have been difficult for him. He moved into the Middlechurch Home where he received wonderful care and attention from the special dedicated staff for which the family is very thankful. There he liked to sit with the ladies in the evening and sing. Throughout his life he always enjoyed having company to sit and swap stories. Just as he always did at home, when he was in Middlechurch he would want to walk you to the door and see you off. He is now in peace and will be resting next to mom.
A memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23 at Zion Lutheran Church, 403 1st Street, Beausejour, MB with Pastor Bart Coleman presiding. Interment to follow at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Brokenhead. Dad’s nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s name may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Box 968, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0 or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Sawchuk Drive, Selkirk, MB R1A 2B3.
