Elsie left this life as she lived it, with great dignity, surrounded by family and friends on April 4, 2013 in Lac du Bonnet, MB.
She was born in Great Falls, MB on January 29, 1923 to loving parents, Gunhild and Johannes Sparman. She was predeceased by her husband Edgar Walter Chapman after 48 years together and her younger sister Joyce Mathews of Richmond, BC.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Diane Loewen (Al), son Bruce Chapman (Carol) and son Paul Chapman (Carol Hapko) and her youngest sister Emily Bowyer of Port Moody, BC. Mör Mör will be greatly missed by grandchildren Paula Stoker (Dwayne), Keira Howard (Ken), Gina Loewen (Todd Babiak) and Anders Chapman; also great-grandchildren Aidan, Rylan and Ethan Stoker, Quinn and Zuri Howard and Avia and Esmé Babiak.
After graduating from Business School in Winnipeg, Elsie spent many years as Office Manager at The Bay in Lac du Bonnet. She was very community-minded (even served as truant officer for the School Board) and worked hard for many charitable organizations and St. John’s Anglican Church. She was a Lifetime Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Lac du Bonnet Pioneer Club, an avid curler and card player.
Elsie lived a blessed and full life. Her sense of humour, big smile and full-of-life charm made her very special. She cherished her family, wonderful friends and her special community of Lac du Bonnet.
Thank you Mom, Nana, Mör Mör for all that you have given us. We raise our glass to salute you.
As per her final wishes, Elsie’s body has been donated to the Dept. of Human Anatomy & Cell Science.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Hall in Lac du Bonnet.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice or St. John’s Anglican Church in Lac du Bonnet.
