Elsie Hastman (Nee Schroeder)

March 28, 1919 — March 28, 2014

1919 ~ 2014

It is with profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mom on Monday, December 8, 2014 at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour.

She was predeceased by her husband Herman and daughter in-law Vionna.  Mom is lovingly remembered by her children Wilfred, Audrey (Herb), Ray (Joyce), Nelson (Mary-Ann), Doris (Rod) along with 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Elsie was born and raised in the Green Bay area where she met and married the love of her life Herman in 1938.  Together they farmed and raised their family in the Golden Bay area.  In 1973 Mom and Dad retired to Beausejour.  They had more time to enjoy family, friends, and travelling throughout Canada and the USA.  Volunteering in the community and church were always important to Mom!  She was an accomplished organist for over 50 years within the Lutheran churches in Golden Bay and Beausejour; she enjoyed music and singing till her final days.  After Dad’s passing in 1994, Mom continued to lead an active church life, and enjoyed volunteering at Togs and Treasures and at the Hospital.  Family was most important to Mom as she was always interested in everyone’s activities from young to old.  She was the centre and strength for the family as they spread over western Canada.  Her caring and kindess were deeply appreciated by all her children.  We will always remember our dear Mom.

Special heartfelt thank is extended to the staff of East Gate Lodge who lovingly cared for our Mom for many years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with viewing one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be in in Elsie’s memory to East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0 or to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
