It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Elvin "Al" Dennis White on February 4, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in Morden, MB, in 1934, Al is predeceased by his parents Hugh White, Ila Dawson, and brother Neil, with his sister June Vickner and family left to mourn his passing. In 1949 his family sold the farm, and they moved to Winnipeg. In 1956, Hugh and Ila moved to Pointe to manage the Pointe du Bois Supply Co. Store. During a visit to see his parents, Winnipeg Hydro was looking to fill positions. Al applied and was hired as a floorman in the power plant. Al worked his way to the position of power plant operator retiring in 1986, residing in Pointe until 1997.
Al was a "jack of all trades,” could take anything apart, fix it, and put it back together again. He was always ready to help with any projects that needed doing, and yes, he was called upon often. He loved the outdoors and hunted, had a trapline, golfed, curled, snowmobiled, and had a passion for fishing.
He loved the outdoors and golfed, curled, snowmobiled, hunted, and ran a trapline by Slave Falls. He especially enjoyed fishing and was a guide for Pine Island Lodge. Summers would have family and friends getting together, heading upriver to fish, followed by a shore lunch and nothing tasted better. When he could no longer manage on his own, his love for fishing was fueled by son Roger and they would go up the river every chance they got. Roger would haul dad into the boat right up until it was impossible for him to do so.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 24 years Diane, her two sons Jeff and David Coutu, and grandsons Michael and Brendyn. Dads’ memory will be cherished by his children with wife Theresa (d.2023); Roger, Catherine (David) Juskow, Kenneth (Brenda), Dennis (Sharon), grandchildren Shawn Juskow, Sheryl (Darrin) Bohonis, Ryan Juskow, Ian White, and great grandchildren Aidan and Kaitlyn Bohonis.
Family wishes to thank the staff at the Whitemouth Personal Care home for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place and family will gather together in spring to celebrate his life and consign his ashes to the Winnipeg River at Pointe.
Gone Fishing
by David Ritter
If someone should ask for me,
tell ’em heaven is where I’ll be.
I’ve finished all my life’s chores,
and now I fish on heaven’s shores.
The view is grand and the fishing’s great,
but I yearn for you as I wait.
I’ll save a spot on the river’s bend,
for all those, I call family and friend.
But for now, head out to sea
and make a cast in memory,
to all the good times that you had,
with me – your friend, your grandpa, your dad.
And if the fish no longer bite,
or seem no longer worth the fight,
because it’s me that you are missin’,
don’t worry – be glad – I’ve only gone fishin’.
