Geno was born in Pine Falls, MB and was the 7th of nine children. He was taught a strong work ethic at a young age which he carried throughout his lifetime. He left in the 1960’s to pursue work and while working in one of Red Lake’s Gold Mines he met Kathleen in 1971 and married in 1972. In 1974, they moved to Sagkeeng where they settled and raised their son and daughter.
Geno worked at the local paper mill for a short time, then went to work for Sagkeeng First Nation. He worked for the housing department building footings and houses, then worked for the Sagkeeng Education Authority (Maintenance), then with the George M. Guuimond Care Centre (Maintenance) where he retired.
In his younger years Geno played baseball and hockey with Sagkeeng’s local teams and enjoyed moose hunting, fishing, as well as wood working and photography. He also enjoyed his travels across Canada, the USA, Cuba and the Dominican and enjoyed just getting into his vehicle and driving. Geno loved playing cards and board games with family and friends, was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, suduko and cryptoquotes.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the E2 Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, 2nd floor at the St. Boniface Hospital for the respect, love and compassion that was conveyed to Geno and our family.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB.
