Florence Schinkel (Nee Fiebelkorn)

March 28, 1934 — March 28, 2016

1934 ~ 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother on Tuesday the 6th of December 2016 at the Pinawa Hospital , at the age of 82 years.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Gottlieb and Rosina Fiebelkorn as well as her brothers and sisters.   Also her companion William Baxter.

Left to cherish her memory is her son Loren Schinkel (Debbie), Daughters Sandra David (Louis), Janice Guzzi, and Jackie Glasgow (Grant).  Her grandchildren Luke Schinkel (Chrissy), Jennifer Maslow (Jason), Melissa David (Colin), Jason David ( Lauren) Dayna Queau-Guzzi, Shaila Queau-Guzzi, Travis Guzzi,  Terrell Glasgow and her great grandchildren Kadence and Gavin Maslow.

Mom was born in Steinbach on August 21st 1934.  She was the youngest of the family and grew up on the family farm in Brokenhead, Mb.  The strong work ethic that Mom developed on the homestead followed her throughout her life.  While raising her family she worked at various jobs. In 1987, Mom retired from the Underground Research Laboratory at the age of 65 years.

Mom always had a positive attitude and loved life.  She loved to laugh and always had a joke or one liner.   She enjoyed playing cards with her family or her Bingo buddies.  Mom loved to sing and played the guitar, bringing much enjoyment to those around her. She loved gardening, crocheting, and garage sales.  She loved watching sports and had her game show schedule down to a science.  You never left Moms house hungry, her soups, perogies, cabbage rolls and pickles were second to none.  Mom always made herself available for baby-sitting her grandchildren at the spur of the moment and took this time to teach them the bingo and card skills that she enjoyed so much.  Mom also ensured that each and every one of her children, grandchildren and whoever touched her heart had a crocheted doily, or a blanket, which had been handcrafted with loving thoughts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who provided love, care and support to Mom during her final months.  To Dr. M. Bruneau and the staff at the Pinawa hospital who were our Mom’s compassionate care “angels” during her last challenging days.  Also to Karen Cardinal and the wonderful homecare workers at the Bonny Vista Lodge.  You are all truly special people.

If desired and in lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mom’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lac Du Bonnet Legion Hall, followed by a private family interment.
