1927 ~ 2014
After a heart attack and stroke last August and on-going health issues, Frieda passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Beausejour Hospital with her family by her side. She was 87 years old.
Frieda will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Alfred of 50+ years, brothers Otto (Waltraud) and Oskar (Erna), sister Anna Peiter (Germany), brother in-law Herbert (Johanna) Makowe, sister in-law Lucy Lippert, her niece Susanne (Peter) Sanders and Tanner and Connor, nephews Michael, Robert (Noreen and Dayne) and Peter (Leslie).
She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Emelie, sisters Hedwig Kadlubowski and Bertha Makowe and brother Konrad.
Frieda was born on February 10, 1927 in Helenowka, Poland. As a young woman she and her sister Bertha Immigrated to Canada. She worked at a sewing factory until she met Alfred. They were married on September 7, 1963 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Winnipeg and moved to Dinorwic, ON where Alfred’s family operated a fishing camp. After their health declined, Frieda had a wish of being closer to her brother Otto and family. At the end of November, they moved in with Otto and Waltraud in Beausejour.
Frieda belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Dinorwic until the small rural church closed its doors. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the congregation. She helped to maintain the church by cleaning, painting, cooking and baking for the special occasions and events that were necessary to keep the church open. She hosted Bible studies at their house after the church closure. She was an avid listener of church services on the radio especially “The Lutheran Hour”. She continued to read the German Bible faithfully even after her illness. One verse she had under lined, John 8:31 “If you continue in my Word you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Frieda was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress and gardener. She worked hard in her lifetime. Over the years she and Alfred enjoyed many activities together-fishing, blueberry picking, pick cones for the seeds and she planted numerous trees for shelter around their property. Her garden provided much food for the winter-she would can and freeze much of the produce. Frieda was a believer of homemade and their outings for restaurant food were far and few in between. Her flowers were her pride and joy when they were in full bloom around her garden.
Our gratitude to Pastor Bart Coleman for the meaningful friendship and kind words. A very special Thank You and our appreciation to Dr. Carrie Lafournaise, Dr. Rasool Askarifar and the wonderful staff at the Beausejour Hospital for their care of our loved one, Frieda. God Bless each one of you as you continue your work of healing. Also, to Libby and her staff at Sobering Funeral Chapel-your compassion, friendship and professionalism is very special to us, Frieda’s family.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 403 1st Street N., Beausejour with Pastor Bart Coleman officiating. Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Grieger, Robert Grieger, Peter Grieger, Susanne Sanders, Peter Sanders and Dayne Grandt Tracey.
