Frieda Steinke (nee German) passed away peacefully at the Beausejour Hospital on August 26, 2021 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Rudolph (Rudy) of 68 years, daughter Sharol, her brother, two sisters, two half-brothers, 2 half-sisters, and her parents. She was a beloved mother to Glenn (Terry), Darlene (Wayne) Omichinski, Dallen (Sherry), Sharol (Glenn) Collard and Ken. She was a very proud grandmother of 13 and great grandmother of 14.
Frieda always lived close to where she was born and raised. She stayed at home to raise her children and look after the farm chores while Rudy went out to work. She was a very active person with a passion for gardening, canning, reading, sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, quilting, baking and decorating cakes. No matter what she created, they were works of art which she poured in all her love and great imagination into. She enjoyed travelling with Rudy to the US, BC and Alberta to visit family and the annual fruit run every fall. In her later years she travelled to Europe and the UK with her son Ken and granddaughter Vanessa to see the sites and visit some long lost and found relatives. She loved to watch football on TV and had the honor to lead the Winnipeg Blue Bombers onto the football field dressed in costume (of her own creation) as “Miss Blue Bomber”, which she did with great pride and energy.
As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Box 968,403 1st Street N., Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
Thank you to the 5ACCU staff at St. Boniface and staff at Beausejour Hospitals for the care and compassion they showed mom throughout her stay.
Rest in peace Mom
