Garry (Geert) Sienema

1926 ~ 2016

Garry Sienema passed away peacefully on September 11, 2016.  He was 90 years old.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Elly and his 5 children Pier (Donna), Henry (Sofie), Ann (Ed), Eelkje, and Jerry (Jennifer).  He’s also greatly missed by his grandchildren Melanie (Richard), Henry (Katie), Craig, David, Lola, Angela (Marco), Sheri (Keiko), Connie (Faron), Travis (Cindy), Kevin (Julie), Lucas, Mitchell, Matthew, Michael and Meaghan.  Along with his great grandchildren Sarah, Abigail, Grace, Joseph, John, Alisha, Karissa, Dustin and Brooke.

His birth family remained in Holland and so the Boonstra family became his family whom also lovingly remember him along with their many friends.  Anyone that met him loved him.

Garry was born in Opende, Netherlands August 14, 1926 and lived next door to whom would be his future bride.  At the age of 9 Garry said he was going to marry Elly, she was only 7.  His dream came true and they married on January 30, 1946.  They remained happily married for over 70 years.  They never had a fight.

They settled in Whitemouth in 1958 where they raised their family of 5 children.  After retirement they spent many years travelling across Canada and the U.S.  Garry loved woodworking, their family home and his yard.  He was seldom indoors.

Taking care of “Mother” was the most important thing in his life and he did so to the very end.  He also enjoyed walks in the woods where he would connect with God.

A Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, September 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his honour to a children’s charity of your choice.
