Gerald Arthur George Betker

December 1, 1959 — July 11, 2021

December 1, 1959 ~ July 11, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Betker, our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, on July 11, 2021 at the age of 61.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Sandy, his daughter Kerry (Ben), grandsons Owen and Griffin, his son Clint (Shantelle), grandsons Gavyn and Sterling, and his granddaughter who we will meet in December.  He also leaves behind his siblings, David, Garry (Donna), Bruce (Tammy), Cindy, Fred (Leanne), and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Gertrude Betker (Koster).

Family was very important to him.  He was very proud of growing up on the family farm and knew Seddons Corner would always be his home.  He met his wife Sandy at the Seddons Corner restaurant in 1991, they married in 1993 and they built their life in Seddons Corner, close to Gerald’s family.  He loved lilacs and would always stop to pick some and bring them home to Sandy when they were in bloom.

Gerald loved the outdoors.  He spent much of his time fishing, and hunting.  He believed bear fat was the cure for almost anything, and was always looking for the perfect rig and fishing spot.  He loved being out on his boat, especially with Clint and Gavyn, or out on Kerry’s dock fishing with Owen and Griffin.  Gardening was another past time of his and he was especially proud of his potato crop every year.  He knew all the spots to look for morel mushrooms and looked forward to finding them with his sister Cindy every year.

He had a number of careers in his lifetime and they all involved operating heavy equipment and hard work.  He spent many years in the logging industry and driving semi-trucks all over the country including up north on the ice roads.  He could drive and fix anything.

Gerald was kind to everyone he met and could talk to anyone about anything.  He was the best story teller and his laugh was completely infectious.  Some of his best stories were about growing up on the farm with his siblings.  Usually, he was laughing so hard you missed some details or didn’t get to hear the end, but it never mattered because you were laughing right along with him.

We will forever hear his laugh, see his smile, and feel his hugs.  He is gone far too soon, but will be in our hearts forever.  We would like to thank everyone who has reached out to our family.  Gerald was truly loved by so many.
