Jerry passed away suddenly in early February in Whitemouth, Manitoba.
He was born in Montello, Wisconsin to Stephen and Blanche Polcyn. He was predeceased by his parents, by his twin James (1948), brother Daniel (2006), and sister Rita (2010). He is survived by siblings Mary Ann Arbeiter [Richard] in FL, and Charles Polcyn [Verna ] Winnipeg and Whitemouth, and sister in-law Elizabeth Polcyn [Daniel] in WI.
Much beloved by his many nieces and nephews he had a special bond with his nephew Ricky Arbeiter and his nieces Asmara Polcyn, Erin Polcyn Sailer [Frantisek] of Winnipeg and Tania Polcyn [Grigori Axenov] of Ottawa.
He studied at Wisconsin State University in Steven’s Point, and University of South Dakota achieving a B.Sc , an MA, and had completed the field work and data analysis for a PHD in zoology.
He served in the United States Air Force, taught biology at Sioux Falls College S D, and the University of Winnipeg. His attachment to Whitemouth , Manitoba began in 1972 when he swapped his houseboat on the Red River for “wilderness land”.
Jerry had great curiosity for life and an appreciation for nature, forever trying to understand the world and how things work. He worked for 20+ years at Sabourin Lake Lodge in northern Ontario as a guide and in camp maintenance.
He was happiest tramping through the bush, solving any challenge, fishing, hunting or engaging in debate. He was a man of keen intelligence and many talents and will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held later this spring in Whitemouth.
