1936 ~ 2019
Sadly, early Saturday morning, June 15th, mom took her last breath and passed away peacefully in her sleep at Pinawa Hospital at the age of 83.
She is lovingly survived by her husband Mike, daughters Judy Arndt, and Brenda (Jason) Molinski, four grandchildren, Dustin (Michelle) Molinski, Stacy (Ryan) Sanders, Cam (Melissa) Molinski, and Opal Arndt, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Richard in 2014, siblings, Fred, Eddy (in childhood), Alice, & Clara and her parents, Andrew and Otilia Shauman.
Mom was born January 13, 1936, and grew up in the Bird River area, the youngest of five children. She attended school at Poplar Bay to grade 9, and then worked at the Manitoba Hydro staff house in Pointe du Bois.
Mom and dad met at the Lee River Dance Hall…then married on January 18, 1958. Married for 61 years, together for closer to seventy years. They spent the next forty plus years farming in the Berryland/Brightstone area and moved into Lac du Bonnet in 2001.
Mom loved life in the country on the farm, where there was no rush hour, no punch clock, where one could live with the doors unlocked. She enjoyed the simple quiet life. As a farm wife and mother, she worked tirelessly at whatever needed to be done, without ever a complaint, always doing for others and putting herself last. With mom’s huge garden, and plenty of beef walking around the yard, there was always lots to eat, and it always amazed us how mom could just whip up a big meal at the spur of the moment when someone unexpected dropped in. The farm was her life, she loved it – no one could handle those calves like she could, even well into her 70’s. She was a hard worker, patient and strong, with a heart of gold. Her and dad worked together side-by-side every day 24/7 for over 60 years…setting a good example for all of us…their love endured all.
When they did move into town, mom continued to go back to the farm almost daily to help Rich until the farm was sold. With life in town, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, planting flowers, helping dad with the drink tabs, going for coffee breaks to Drifter’s with ‘the gang’, suppers out on Saturday night, jam sessions at The Lac du Bonnet Legion, and always looked forward to visits from the kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Pretty well all her life mom had no health issues, until she ended up in the hospital for four months this past winter. Our sincere thank you to Dr. Bruneau, to the whole Home Care team, and to the wonderful staff at Pinawa Hospital.…all of you treated mom with exceptional care. Mom got to enjoy two months living with dad at Ironwood, and again our heartfelt gratitude goes to all the staff there for being such wonderful and caring people.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with interment in Brightstone Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Offer Condolence for the family of Gloria Zaretski (nee Shauman)
