Gunnar Postnicks

March 2, 1931 — November 7, 2020

March 2, 1931 – November 7, 2020

It is with deep sorrow we announce his passing after a five-month struggle with cancer.

He was born in Riga, Latvia and came to Canada at the age of 17.  In 1954 he joined Manitoba Hydro.  Wherever we were as a family, either in Great Falls or Thompson, he was an active member of the community.  He had many interests and hobbies.  He never did anything on a small scale.  He hunted, fished and smoked the best goldeye ever.  He was a Head Scout Master, President of the Maskwa Snowmobile Club and Santa for over 30 years for the children of Great Falls.  He was an active member of the Lutheran Choir in Lac du Bonnet.  Dad and Mom moved to a house they built on the Winnipeg River in 1987.  After he retired in 1991, he kept busy with his bees which he had for many years.  He provided some of the best honey to people in the area.  He had a huge garden, raised pheasants, ducks and managed all wildlife he encountered.  Mom and Dad took every opportunity to do some traveling.  He enjoyed watching the Jets and supporting the Saskatchewan Rough Riders.  His pride and joy was his red Cadillac.

He is survived by his wife Laurie of 64 years, his five children; Debbie (David), Gail, Kelly (Heather), Danny (Alison) and Brenda, 11 grandchildren; Tony, Tim, Chris, Stephanie (Greg), Nelson, Emily, Hunter, Laura, David (Samm), Paul and Michelle (Ashley) and 3 great grandchildren; Zenon, Zofia and Arlo.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gerges, the nurses and staff at Pine Falls Primary Health Centre for taking such good care of our dad.

Cremation has taken place.  Due to Covid restrictions a private service will take place at a later date.
