Peacefully, Heinz lost his courageous struggle with Congestive Heart failure and passed away at the Pinawa Hospital.
He was born in Dortmund Germany and grew up there before immigrating to Canada at the age of 21.
Heinz was predeceased by wife Marjorie and son Arnold.
He is survived by his son Richard (Susan) of Nanoose Bay British Columbia; grandsons Brett (Mandi) and Tyler of Kimberley British Columbia; brother Günter of Dortmund Germany; and sister in law Mary Gordon of Edmonton Alberta.
Heinz began his Canadian work career as an electrician at an electric motor company in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. He then worked for the Comstock construction company in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He met Marjorie at a small-town dance while working on a project at the Brandon Generating Station. Marriage helped Heinz decide to travel less with work so he joined Manitoba Hydro. Heinz and family then moved and worked at multiple locations before finally settling down in Seven Sisters Falls. Prior to retirement, they purchased a home in Pinawa where they became active members of the community and made many friends.
Heinz was very physically active and was a competitive cross-country skier and long distance runner. He also enjoyed winter get away holidays and summer camping trips with Marjorie.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Pinawa at a later date.
The family wants to send a special thank you to the staff at Pinawa Hospital, the Pinawa Ironwood Assisted Living facility and Beausejour East Gate Lodge.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Pinawa Foundation.
