Herbert (Herb) William Krieger

Herb passed away at his home in Beausejour on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the age of 74.

Herb was predeceased by his parents; Marie Krieger (nee Fiebelkorn) and William Krieger.  He leaves to mourn his sons Dave (Deeanna) Krieger and Don Krieger; grandchildren Brendan and Darren; his sister Lorine (Allan) Freund; nephews and niece Brad West, Allan (Diana) West and Debbie (Rob) Ravestein; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he completed high school.  He continued his education at Red River College where he took pipe fitting, as well as Bonar Law School in Allegra.

Herb started working at a very young age, helping his parents on their farm. He also farmed on his own for many years.  Aside from farming, he was the general foreman in Snow Lake in 1977-1980 where he helped build the Ore Concentrator there – his proudest job!  He was very mechanically inclined.  He worked in British Columbia, namely Quesnel, Prince George, Trail.  He also worked in the Alberta Tar Sands as a Red Seal Pipefitter.

While farming, he always had a way to fix anything that broke, especially at harvest.  He made some of his own equipment because he refused to pay triple its value when he could build it cheaper.  He made his own log splitter, lawn mower, wood piler, just to name a few.  His ideas and creations were always very practical and inexpensive.  He restored and collected 9 Massey Harris Pony tractors, rebuilding and painting them himself.  He built his own house, and built many houses and garages for people.  He was a journeyman pipefitter but he would help many people in the winter when their furnace quit or someone’s car broke down.  He loved dogs, not cats.

Dave helped on the farm, put an addition on the house, fixed the buildings, and cut wood; whatever his dad needed. Don helped too.  He loved hunting, fishing, and drinking.  He made a point of spending quality time with his grandchildren.  He always liked to watch them eat.  He had the worst jokes on earth, yet they were always funny because it came from him.  Over the years he would repeat the same jokes and still it would be funny.  He loved listening to the Polka Party Saturdays at 7 and would phone people to remind them it was on.

As per Herb’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A small gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 24, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Herb’s house located at 729 Pine Avenue, Beausejour.
