Dad was born August 25, 1928 in Lydiatt, Manitoba. Dad grew up on a farm with his parents and worked briefly in Alberta before meeting Mom at a St. Ouens barn dance. They were married on November 12, 1955 and farmed together in Lydiatt until 1993 when they built a new home in Beausejour. They resided there until 2015 when Dad suffered a stroke and moved to East Gate Lodge.
Dad had a deep faith in God. He loved music, attending various social events including dances, fiddling contests and gospel jams. He enjoyed the drive to get there too.
Mom and Dad enjoyed hosting many dance parties in the basement of their farm home and later in their farm shop and then in their new home in Beausejour.
In younger years, Dad enjoyed playing hockey at the Kurt Loeb rink and was a long-time season Jets (WHA) ticket holder. The farmer in him enjoyed his garden in later years.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour. Interment at Lydiatt Cemetery will occur in the summer. Honorary pallbearers are Dad’s grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad’s memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lydiatt or East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour, or to an organization of one’s choice.
Sincere thanks to East Gate Lodge staff and doctors for the kind and patient care of Dad during his stay.
