Isabel Smith (Isabella Barclay)

1924 ~ 2015

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Isabel Smith on March 7, 2015.

Isabel was born in Clear Lake, Manitoba on November 24, 1924 where she grew up on the family farm. She enlisted as a Wren with the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service in 1943 and after serving her country, she returned to study as a Registered Nurse at the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing. She worked the majority of her career at Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital. Isabel met and married Frank James Smith in 1959 and they set up home in Transcona and raised their one daughter.

Isabel is predeceased by her loving husband, her parents George and Hazel Barclay, sister Laureen Craib and infant brother Thomas.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Laurie and Rod Cable, granddaughters, Leanne (Corey) and Alicia (Alex) and sister Betty Peterson of Calgary along with many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Isabel’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
