Sustained by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, through the journey of 82 years, Jean Harriet Marie Martel (nee Radford) was gently lifted by angels to rejoice in her eternal home. She will be celebrating movement and sight where this earth can no longer restrict her.
She was pre-deceased by her committed husband Gerald Martel and many other close family members. Jean leaves behind her children, Teryl Jerome (Ron) and 3 grandchildren, Jaida with great grandchildren (Dominic, Kyla, Alyssa and Ryder), Cyrena (great grandchild Michael) and Kara her 2 sons Todd (baby boy) Martel and Mark with grandson Marqus. In addition, she leaves her sister Lorna Currie with her children Jeannine Martens, Leanne Nastasi, Carrie Nash, Melissa Nash and Jaida Nash along with their children.
Jean was born in North Western Ontario and lived in the Amesdale area of Ontario. As a child she would walk two miles to local school on bush roads unused by anyone but family. As a youth she moved to Manitoba and moved herself to Winnipeg as a teen to work and study with the Adelman family. She and Gerald dated and married where they relocated to Middlebro, MB eventually moving to Winnipeg and settling in Lac du Bonnet. Jean loved learning and had the unique ability to retain pertinent information from who created the Alexander MacKenzie Rose to what key Mozart wrote The No. 40 Symphony (G minor). Her baking was exquisite, her cooking Red Seal quality. Tenacity was Jean’s living quality. Jean was an active proud member of the Horticultural Society. Flowers bloomed in every nook and corner of her yard. Her love and passion of flowers were balanced by her love to help others.
She thanks the Fifth Street girls Donna, Gwen, Anne, and Marge (who she is chatting with as you read this.) Special gratitude directed at Ruth, Barb and Irene, who nurtured their friendship and blessed her life for years. Thank you to Dr. Bruneau, the Personal Care home staff, and Pinawa Hospital staff, and homecare staff that tolerated all the family moods and needs.
THANK YOU Lac du Bonnet! YOU, as a community ensured Jean’s safety and wellness by assisting her downtown, in the handivan trips, in the store buying lottery tickets, and those who held her cheques until paydays for her, and grocer who delivered faithfully. Thank you.. You blessed her and us as a family.
