Jean Shumila

January 1, 1922 to November 1, 2010

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Jean Shumila, at the Grace Hospital on Monday, November 1, 2010 at the age of 88 years. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her only daughter, Jeanette (Leonard) Molinski, granddaughter Kimberley (Barry) Kirshenbaum and Eryn and granddaughter Lynn (Frank) Rowan, Abigail and Mikayla. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Helen Kianski and Mary Fote and brothers Johnny (Elsie) Kizlik and Steven (Irene) Kizlik, sister-in-law Margaret Kizlik, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her first husband Thomas Hetherington and her second husband Paul Shumila, her parents Annie and Alexander Kizlik and sisters Nellie Horosko and Josephine Oneschuk and brothers Mike Kizlik, Paul Kizlik and Tony Kizlik.

Jean and Paul were married in 1953 and lived on the farm in Brokenhead where they farmed for many years. They retired from the farm and moved to Beausejour in 1977. As Mom’s health declined in 2001, she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. Mom loved to serve and tend to her large vegetable and fruit garden, but her greatest pleasure came from cooking and baking. Mom loved to be in the kitchen trying new recipes and perfecting old ones and will always be remembered for her cinnamon buns and cabbage rolls.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Avenue E., Beausejour with interment to follow at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
