Joan was born and raised on the Schultz family farm in Cromwell, Manitoba, the fourth of ten brothers and sisters. A very close-knit family, many good times were held at the farm with many musical instruments and singing sessions. After their marriage in 1951, Mom & Dad moved onto a farm very near where she was raised. Mom worked hard on the farm and always enjoyed the harvest with not just caring for her children and cooking, but also hauling grain, maintaining the yard and gathering the garden harvest. A large garden was planted every year resulting in much canning and freezing. Her freezer always had some frozen squares, cinnamon buns, and other goodies, ready for anyone who happened to stop by. No one ever left the house without a delicious lunch, no matter what the hour. Mom took great pride of the homestead – planting flowers and always ensuring the grass was neatly trimmed. Mom and Dad played endless games of cards, not just at the Brokenhead Community Centre where they were active members, but at home or the homes of others. Later when she moved to Beausejour, she enjoyed attending the Beau-Head Senior Centre.
As per Joan’s request, cremation has taken place and a funeral liturgy will take place at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to East-Gate Lodge Personal Care Home.
Many thanks to the staff at East gate lodge Rose Unit and Dr. Van Rensberg, for all the care and compassion they showed towards our mother.
