It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joseph (Marcel) Andre Phillippe Choiniere in the home that brought him so much joy, on March 17th 2022 in his 90th year.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, the true love of his life, Yolande, Daughter from Denver: Diane (Rob), Grandchildren: Sierra (Pat), Chloe (Javier), Justine.
His step-family: Lydia (Roger), Kara-Dawn (Brenden), Randy, Kurtis. Berna (Roger) Shawn, Barb (Lennie) Lorie (Ken) so many extended family and friends who had the honour of being a part of his life. His beloved furry friends who brought him so much joy, Chester, Luke, JJ and Guiness. And last but not least his lifelong friend Porky (Ted).
Marcel was born in St. Front Sask on July 4th 1932. He was a free spirit that took him hitchhiking across the Canadian provinces until he turned 17 and joined the Air Force. He became a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and was proud to serve for 25 years. While stationed at Camp Borden Ontario, he received his Diploma for Refinishing Technician Trade Adjustment. This trade led him to Europe where he was stationed in Germany and where many of his entertaining and educational stories of being ‘overseas’ came from. He was a man of integrity, had a great sense of humour and many many talents who never turned down a challenge. His motto was “if you don’t know, ask, hell I’m curious or maybe just ‘nose-y’”
He often bragged about his daughter Diane who he loved dearly because she was “such a go-getter” just like him. In his words he taught her so much, and she always did ‘such a great job’. This pride was often extended to his 3 beautiful granddaughters and all their successes.
For the last 12 years of his life Marcel was happiest with his love, Yolande by his side, settled in the country, grateful for the beautiful scenery he genuinely appreciated every day. This joy was made possible by his step-grandson Randy who welcomed him and G-ma into his home with love and acceptance. Not a day went by without him expressing his ‘awe’ for this ‘amazing young man.’ He repeatedly expressed he ‘hit the jackpot’ when he was adopted with love and open arms by Momma Yo’s family, “The family down the road”. Roger, the son he always wanted and was so proud of, Lydia, the cute nurse he always dreamed of, and the boys who always “giver’ shit”. In the words of Joe Canoe (Marcel) “it can’t get any better than this!”
Joe, we will miss all your one-liners but I promise we will keep you alive in our hearts using them to bring joy to others.
St. Peter heard your prayer, opened the gates, and welcomed you home. You can rest now. We love you so.
Special thank you to ALL the EMS teams that day who took such care and compassion to the man we loved so much. We will forever be grateful. Also, a heartfelt thank you to RCMP Constable Humen and Constable Pinsent. Your patience and calm demeanor brought us peace.
Marcel’s wishes will be honoured with a cremation and a private family service in the future, going home to rest with his mother in St. Front Saskatchewan.
See you later Joe…
Offer Condolence for the family of Joseph (Marcel) Choiniere
