Josephine Patricia Bahry

 It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Josephine Patricia Bahry (Regula) on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

Leaving to cherish her memory are her children Marilyn (David), Joanne (Randy), David, Angela and Robert (Barbara); grandsons Sean Wlasichuk (Lisa), Scott Wlasichuk (Heidi), Kyle Bahry (Crystal) and Kevin Bahry; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Josephine was predeceased by her husband Stephen, parents Mary and John Regula, brothers Tom and wife Nina, Henry and Stanley; sister Jean Fedak

and husband Andrew; son-in-law Dallas Ward; and grandson Geordie Carter.

Mom was born October 19, 1932 on the family farm in Cloverleaf, MB. The ’30s were hard times and neighbours looked out for one another in order to survive. It was in this tight-knit community that she developed her caring spirit. She formed enduring friendships, especially with Adele and Beverley.

The family farm remained a special place for all of Mom’s days. She loved everything about farm life. Herding the cows to pasture after milking, tending the garden and collecting eggs were simple pleasures. Harvest was the best time. She absolutely loved making lunches and delivering them to the fields. Cooking huge suppers for the threshing gang was so satisfying to her. Mom was always a country girl.

She moved to Winnipeg to continue her education at United College, which led to a position as teacher in a one-room rural schoolhouse. Mom taught her students more than reading and writing. She made them cocoa on cold mornings, taught them social skills and citizenship. Mom loved this job. But the handsome young teacher at Cloverleaf school caught her eye. Steve swept her off her feet and they soon married.

Mom devoted herself to raising her family and making a welcoming home. Our house was always bustling with kids, friends and visitors. Often our friends would drop by when we weren’t home, because they enjoyed chatting with Mom. We often wondered if they liked her more than us. She was warm and welcoming to all; there was always room for one more at the table. Mom was a great cook and baker. Holidays were veritable feasts. She was so happy when the whole family was gathered together.

Mom was very involved in the community. Many friendships began at church, school activities, charity drives and the kids’ sporting events.

She was so very proud of her grandsons. Gramma was the loudest cheerleader at their games; had great fun at sleepovers and camping when they were young. That the boys are now fine young men was no doubt influenced by Gramma’s love and support.

The apple of Mom’s eye was her great-granddaughter Josie, whose sparkling personality always brightened her day. Even at such a young age, Josie was attentive and loving to Great-Gramma and lifted her spirits.

Our lives will not be the same without Mom. She was our family’s centre. We love you and miss you. You will be in our hearts forever.

The family is so grateful to every one of the wonderful caregivers at Middlechurch Home for the kindness they showed her. Sincerely, thank you.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022, 11:00 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, with Fr. Bob Kay officiating.
