Joyce Obie

March 24, 1935 ~ May 30, 2011

It is with great sadness, that our family announces the passing of our dear Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma, Joyce Obie, on Monday, May 30, 2011. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her six children, Cliff (Lindsey), Darlene (Harry), Gerald (Lori), Donna (Bugsy), Debbie, Jim (Debbie) and son in-law Gordie as well as 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Joyce is also survived by her sister Betty, many nieces, nephews and friends. She will also be missed by a very special brother and sister in-law, Orlin and Myrtle, who were very dear friends to her. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Norman, parents Scott and Anne Tocher, brothers Donald, Mervyn and Scotty, sisters Mildred, Bernice and Hazel and son in-law Dwight.

Joyce was born in Mair, SK and later moved with her family to the homestead farm just outside of Beausejour. After the farm sold, her family bought the Beausejour Bowling Alley. Joyce married Norman on June 18, 1955 and together made a home on their farm and raised their family. She had numerous jobs over the years including catering, working at Canada Packers and her most favourite being a switchboard operator for MTS.

Mom’s home was always welcoming and inviting with the wonderful aromas of her homemade soups, fresh baking and breads. She had a very well kept, neat home. Mom’s yard was always perfectly maintained along with her many flower gardens and pots. Mom enjoyed knitting, feeding and watching her birds, and shopping for her children and grandchildren. She also had a fondness for owls which she treasured in her everlasting collection. Mom had a special love for her little companion, CoCo, who was never too far from her side.

Mom was a very devoted wife, mom and grandma. She had a kind and gentle soul who always put everyone first. Mom cherished her family above anything else and took pride in their lives and accomplishments.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Campbell and the exceptional staff at the Beausejour Hospital whose compassion and caring during her trying time was unsurpassed. According to Mom’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
