April 5, 1934 to January 12, 2011
With the love of her family around her, June Mills peacefully passed away at her home in Garson, MB.
She leaves behind her husband Bob of 58 years, her sons Bob (Jennifer Northey) and Jim (Michele), grandchildren Brenda, Michael (Anne), Eric, Cory and Ashley, great grandchildren Charissa, Cheyenne, Seth, Kage, Alexa and Max. She is also survived by her step mother Jean Tomiak and step brother Ray Tomiak.
She was predeceased by her son Michael and father Mickey Tomiak and mother Anne McInnis.
In 1952 she met a red headed cop named Bob, he teased and tormented her until she married him. In 1954 they started their family. She lived several years in East Kildonan before moving to East St. Paul and finally to Garson, MB.
She was proud of her 2 sons and their families. And enjoyed travelling with the family travelling carnival business, Select Show and Canuck Amusements for forty years, a business which her and her husband started in 1970. Everyone on the carnival knew her as “Ma”. She enjoyed helping Michele in the office and travelling around the fairgrounds with her husband and her dog Otis on her golf cart. The family will miss going to her motor home on the road for the morning coffee.
She loved to spoil her grandchildren and would make daily trips to Jim and Bob’s shops during the winter with a purse full of beef jerky at coffee time. We are a very close family and would see Grandma and Grandpa almost every day. “Our family is our strength.”
Grandma was determined not to let the “fanny pack” fashion fade out. We miss her homemade perogies and pickles. No one could make them like her.
In the winter season she loved Bingo with her friends at the Garson Hall. She would be the first one at Bingo every week to secure her table. Her family would joke and ask her if she had the keys to open the building. Every morning she would walk to Garson Grocery for her “lotry” tickets. She never left the store without telling a joke.
She enjoyed the odd trip to South Beach Casino with Bob and Jen or Jim and Michele where she would often return with more than a pocket full of mints or a napkin full of shrimp.
She also enjoyed going to Kaye’s Auctions and there wasn’t a garage sale she would pass by.
We will all miss Grandma.
Cremation has taken place. An informal Come & Go will be held at the Garson Community Hall in Garson, MB on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in her memory can be made to the St. Amant Center.
