Kay Harvey

After a short but very brave battle with cancer, Kay Harvey passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, surrounded by her favourite people.

Kay spent her childhood in a small town in Wales with her parents and sister.  After high school (grammar school) she attended the University of Wales in Cardiff where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Zoology.  From there she moved to London for her first job at Morgan Crucible. A year later she changed jobs to Steatite Porcelain in Worcestershire where she stayed for 8 years and met her future husband, Keith.

Keith accepted a job in Canada and they moved initially to Québec, then Fredericton, then to Pinawa in 1979 with 3 kids in tow.

In Pinawa Kay took on a number of jobs, including being both a Tupperware and Avon representative, working at the Post Office and the Pinawa Motor Inn, and the most difficult job of all – raising 3 kids and a husband.

In 1985 she returned to university and obtained her Master’s degree in Natural Resources Management.  In 1988 she started working at AECL and worked there until she retired in 1998.

On her own time Kay had many other interests.  She started her own company, Body and Mind Therapies, and became accredited as a Neurolinguistic Programming Practitioner, Time line therapist, Therapeutic Touch practitioner and Master Hypnotist.

Kay was active in her community, serving on countless committees and boards. She was an Arthritis Self-Management Program Leader, President of the Whiteshell Women’s Association, and Treasurer of the Pinawa Interfaith Hamper Committee and the Manitoba Hypnotist’s Association. She was a member of the Whiteshell Staff Association, the Pinawa-Lac du Bonnet Recreation Commission Board, the Pinawa Hazardous Waste Management Advisory Committee, Bright Beginnings, Transition Network, NEHA, Healthy Together Now, FSNA, Early Childhood Development, the PCDC marketing and tourism committees, and a Whiteshell School Board trustee for 26 years. There may have been more.

She loved wildlife and animals and was a decades long supporter of many charities and rescues.  She also supported many charities that focused on making the world a better place for underprivileged children.

Kay was known for being a friendly, chatty lady who never held back an opinion but would always listen to what you had to say.  She always wished that she had a quicker wit and could have been more snappy with a comeback but I think we can all agree that she made up for that in feistiness.

Kay will leave a big void in our community and our hearts. Kay loved her family more than anything in the world, and we will miss her every single day.

There will be no service but if anyone would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, donations to the Pinawa Hospital would be appreciated.
