Kevin was born on October 15th, 1960, in Geraldton, Ontario. Kevin’s childhood experiences occurred in this area and he graduated from Geraldton Composite High School in 1978. Following his graduation, he studied in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he furthered his education by attending trade school. Kevin became a brilliant and respected Class A mechanic acquiring experience with jet engines, automotive and heavy duty equipment.
Kevin embarked upon a 32 year career with TransCanadaPipeline in 1988. He transferred to North Bay, Ontario, as a mechanical technician and soon became a Hot Tap technician. In 2001, he started with Construction Services East. In 2008, Kevin transferred to Regina, Saskatchewan, to work as a Mechanical Technician, and in 2009 he was seconded to work on the Keystone Project. In 2011 he transferred to the TransCanada Tower in Calgary as a Valve Integrity Specialist and, because of this expertise and experience, in 2013, Kevin was seconded to Mexico to commission a new gas pipeline. In 2016, he was transferred to Winnipeg as a Mechanical Specialist. Kevin retired in November of 2020 concluding a career that took him through Mexico, the USA and most of Canada over four decades. Kevin was especially proud of his career and his pipeline work which included the building of, maintaining, inspecting and repairing valves. He would never take shortcuts and would never permit anyone else to do so either. Kevin firmly believed in “Do it right or don’t do it at all”. His dedication to his work was a testament to his character.
Kevin and Christine met at exactly the perfect point in their lives and It quickly became obvious to both of them, that they were soul mates. Kevin and Christine’s love stretched over 3 decades and this love only grew stronger with the passage of time. In September of 2012, in Calgary, Alberta, Kevin married “the love of his life”. Following the ceremony Kevin and Christine spent a spectacular month in Greece which was, in essence, the start of their lifelong honeymoon.
Following Kevin’s stellar career, he and his loving wife, Christine, retired to Kevin’s dream property, a home on the lake in Lac Du Bonnet. They were able to pursue his lifelong dream of retirement which included fishing, boating and jet skiing. Kevin was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. His love of fishing included annual and bi-annual fly-in fishing trips to remote Northern Ontario. These trips often occurred in the company of Kevin’s brother Mark, son Nathan, nephew Mark Henry, good friend Mike, numerous other friends and if lucky enough, many pickerel.
Kevin and Christine loved travelling with each other. Although a month in Greece was spectacular, a trip to Maui was so enjoyable it became their “go to” destination for all future trips and they returned to Hawaii annually.
Kevin’s smile, laughter and tender heart will forever be missed. He demonstrated caring and compassion on a daily basis. This was clearly illustrated in his earlier years when, for over a decade, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Geraldton, Ontario and humbly received the Ontario Medal for Firefighters Bravery in 1993. This caring and compassion was also clearly illustrated in Kevin’s social interactions, conversations and everyday life.
Kevin’s heart overflowed with kindness, selflessness and love for his family. He was a one-of-a-kind man in every single way. He loved hard, he played hard and he worked even harder. Those who had the pleasure of spending time with Kevin appreciated his delightful sense of humour and his witty commentaries. Kevin has touched countless lives, leaving a lovingly indelible mark upon everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Pinawa Hospital with special thanks to Dr. Cody Clovechok for his steadfast dedication and compassionate care.
As per Kevin’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Kevin’s life will take place on June 29th and continue throughout the long weekend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kevin’s name, to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Kevin’s love for dogs lives on with the donation of Kevin’s pacemaker, which will help save the life of a dog with cardiac issues.
Kevin’s legacy is kindness. May his memory continue to inspire kindness, love and compassion in us all.
