It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard Gerald Goritz at the age of 70 on October 16, 2024.
Leonard leaves behind his wife Betty Goritz (Buss); kids Cameron, Trevor and Chrissy (Korbin, Alita, Vada), Brent and Linnea (Octavia, Ainsley), Triztan, as well as Derek; siblings Larry and Sharon and family, Gordon and Marie; and many more family and friends.
He was predeceased by both his parents Ewald and Clara Goritz as well as his sister Marlene Goritz.
Leonard’s journey began on November 25, 1953, when his twin brother Larry kicked him out of the womb in the Beausejour Hospital.
He grew up on the homestead in Greenwald, Manitoba, where he eventually married the love of his life Betty in 1978, took over the family farm, and raised his four sons.
Leonard spent his time either out on the field, playing with his boys in the sandbox or outside snowmobiling, buying auction hotdogs while on the road, and resting his eyes whenever he could sneak it in.
In his later years, once the grandkids arrived, they turned into his pride and joy. He spent as much time as he could with them either playing inside on cold days or outside in the same sandbox as his boys did, reading books, training them how to “nap”, or even just trying to get the fresh morning hug.
Funeral service will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave, E in Beausejour with viewing one hour prior. Burial will take place with lunch to follow at the Brokenhead River Community Hall, Brokenhead Room.
The family would like to thank each and every one of you for extending your support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Greenwald Colony for providing buns and dessert for the funeral reception.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
