It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother (oma), Lieselotte Dorno, at the age of 89 on October 24, 2014. Surrounded by family at the Nelson, BC Hospital, the Lord took her home. Mom (Oma / Liese) will be lovingly remembered by her son Gunter, daughters Rose (Ivan); Chris (Jim); Rigina (Marlin) and Aneliese, nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
In 1971 her dream of living in the country became a reality when they moved to Garson, Manitoba. The country air, large garden and small community were a joy for her. Fresh vegetables from the garden enhanced the great cooking that she did. Picking berries to make jams and jellies. Having a few chickens for eggs and meat gave her the satisfaction that she knew where the food was coming from.
After the passing of her husband of 53 years, it took her a few years to find a path of her own. With Rosemarie and Ivan, they made their way further west and ended up in Kaslo, BC. Here she made many friends and always talked about her coffee ladies. She loved to bake and enjoyed it very much when it was her turn to have the ladies over.
She now found there was more time to enjoy her crafts – knitting, crocheting, sewing or anything she could imagine, to keep her mind and hands busy. She always said – “if you don’t use it, you will lose it”. It gave her great joy to share her creations with friends and family. She would ask what you needed and would create it for you. Be it slippers, a scarf, mitts, or anything beautiful like doylies, kid’s clothes or a doll, she would keep busy getting it ready for you. Traveling to garage sales and auctions sales gave her the opportunity to find many treasures that she could transform into something different or just enjoy them for what they were. Of course this also gave her the chance to see the country side, enjoy the scenery and have quality time with the driver and any other passengers.
Services will be held at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31. Interment will take place in the Garson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
