Lillian (Lil) Nichiporick (nee Zmurchuk)

March 3, 1939 — July 18, 2024

After a lengthy illness, Lil passed away on July 18, 2024, at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. She is survived by her sons Ed Nichiporick (Kim) and Allan Nichiporick, daughters Betty Tetreault, Christine Sanderson (Mike) and Sharon Nichiporick (Wayne Downie). She is also survived by grandchildren, Brittnie Hodgson, Justin Tetreault, Braden Koski, Jade Koski, Kyle Sanderson, Tyler Sanderson, brother Herb Zmurchuk (Audrey) and sister Stella Zmurchuk (Eugene Larose). She was predeceased by her son Robert, husband Henry, parents William & Katie Zmurchuk & brother Ernie Zmurchuk.

Lil was born to Ukrainian immigrants on March 3, 1939, in Rodef, Alberta. Lil was raised on a homestead and like all homesteaders back then, worked very long and hard hours throughout her childhood and teenage years. Lil later met and married Henry and took up residence in Edmonton. They started their own family and four years after they were married, they moved the family they had at the time and took up residence in what became their permanent new home town of Lac du Bonnet, where they completed their family and lived their lives out.

Lil (also known as the perogy lady by her friends) was an extremely kind, caring and compassionate person who touched the hearts of everyone she met. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and friends. Lil will always be remembered for her unconditional love as a mother and grandmother. Lil’s life was a blessing to everyone who knew her, especially her family, whom she is loved by beyond measure.

Lil had many friends and she shared plenty of time with them participating in curling and baseball, both as players and as fans. Lil also loved entertaining friends at her home with food, drink and various card games. Lil especially liked to cook her specialty dishes which she fed her friends whenever they came over and as always, they went home wanting takeout portions and her recipes, but preferably an invite back so they could eat some more of her home cooking. Lil also loved to go out dancing with Henry and their many friends.

Lil was an extremely active and independent woman until Easter Sunday seven years ago, when she suffered a stroke that permanently knocked her down.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home and Dr. Bruneau for all the care and attention they gave to Lil during her six plus years there. It is very much appreciated and please know Lil very much appreciated it too.

As per mom’s wishes, a private family service will be held with interment in the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
