Linda Michele Schmidt (Nee Rosnyk)

September 20, 1960 – May 8, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our dear Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunty and Friend at her residence on May 8, 2022.

Linda was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Joyce Rosnyk, her mother-in-law Elfriede Schmidt, aunts, uncles, and the only pets she ever had, dog Pepper and cat Mynx.

Linda leaves to mourn her passing her husband and best friend of 46 years Ulrich, son Michael, loving brother Donald, father-in-law Waldemar, as well as many nieces and nephews who she dearly loved, Julie (Sean), Rawb (Jamie), Jayson, Kathy, Allie, Robyn (Robbie), Christina (Kenny).

Linda was born September 20^th, 1960, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. She grew up in the Norwood area, where she attended local schools and got involved in many different sports. Being only 5 ft 2, she really enjoyed the shortstop role in baseball, played basketball, volleyball, track and field, tennis, 10-pin bowling and curling, but the sport she enjoyed the most was golf, due her entire family having a love for the sport.

Growing up, Linda had many different jobs thru the years, working at Eatons, the Heather Curling Club, and even at the Winnipeg Arena for the Winnipeg Clubs.

As a teenager, Linda was lucky enough to find the love of her life, Ulrich, although, it was really Ulrich who was the lucky one to have captured the eye and love from Linda, who is the love of his life. They married at a young age, Ulrich 21 and Linda 19, and shortly thereafter gave birth to her pride and joy Michael, whom she taught to be strong, brave and caring, and also enjoyed many of the sports that Linda enjoyed.

Raising her family in the North Kildonan area of Winnipeg, Linda cared for and cherished all the neighbourhood children of whom she would babysit. All the kids in the neighbourhood have always had a special place in her heart, and they all knew that Linda’s house was a safe place to be. When the family moved out to Tyndall, MB, this tradition continued, where she was fortunate to meet Mandy and Brennan, who she cared for and loved the most.

Another way Linda helped to look after kids was how her and husband Ulrich (or Rick as he is better known) together volunteered their time to successfully run a youth 10-pin bowling program for many years. At one point, they took care of and looked after up to 150 kids, ranging in age from 5 to 21. Linda had such lasting impact on these kids that many of them even years later whenever they saw her, their faces would light up and smile. Her son Michael, when approached by many of the kids would immediately be asked “How is your Mom doing” even before they would ask how he was. It is truly amazing how much of an impact she had on everyone she met.

Linda’s love for children helped get her a job at Tyndall School, which then became Gillis School, where she worked for over 22 years.

Linda enjoyed most summers out at her family cottage in Falcon Lake with her dad, son, and dog Pepper. Over the years, time spent at the cabin was very memorable. With many family members and friends, including close family friend Nancy, Linda would enjoy some wild cribbage matches, being crowned the Yahtzee Queen, as well as many board game nights that all sent laughter thru the evening air.

Linda always had a huge passion for gardening. During the summer months she would spend many hours in her yard planting many beautiful flowers and arrangements as well as a luscious garden every year. Once she had retired she was able to enjoy this passion that much more.

Linda also had a huge passion for music. Some of her favourite bands and artists are Bon Jovi, The Police, Nazareth, The Doors, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, Van Halen, but none of them could hold a candle to her favourite band ever, U2. Posters of U2 have covered walls of hers for many years. With growing up in the 1960’s and being a teenager in the 1970’s, Linda was exposed to and enjoyed some of the best music of any generation. Many times you could find her rocking out on what we called Psychedelic Sundays, or have the tunes cranked at the lake or while she was gardening in her back yard. Fortunately for her son Michael, Linda passed on this passion and love for music to him.

There just aren’t enough words to describe how much of a loving, caring, beautiful, strong, wise and thoughtful person Linda was. If we could all even be half the person she was our world would be an amazing place. We all wish that Linda could have spent more time with us. She will be forever in our hearts.

As per Linda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

We will be forever honoured to have known you and felt your love. Thank you for being THE example of generosity, strength, kindness, a loving person and everything else that is right with this world.

We miss you terribly, and will always love you.
