Linda Sorenson (Soroka)

March 28, 1951 — March 28, 2022

1951-2022

It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Linda Sorenson (née Soroka), age 70, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, on Monday, January 10, 2022, after a heart-related illness.

Forever missing Linda is her loving husband of almost 50 years, Jim; her daughter Kimberly Lavallee (Dave) and granddaughters Genevieve and Annick Lavallee of Winnipeg; son Jonathan (Jaclyn) and grandsons Thane, Leif and Ranon Sorenson of Kelowna, B.C.; sisters Evelyn Funk, Kathy Soroka (Garry McDonald) and Diana Soroka. Also mourning her passing are her Aunt Olga Soroko of Lac du Bonnet; Uncle Wally and Aunt Rose Lazecko of Warren, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Stella Soroka; her grandmother Mary Holyk; and her brother-in-law Edwin Funk.

Linda was born on January 24, 1951 in Selkirk and raised in Lac du Bonnet. After high school, she moved to Winnipeg, worked at Royal Bank and CFRW, and attended Red River Community College for business administration.

In 1971, Linda met her husband Jim, and they married the following year. After two years living in Calgary, they moved back to Manitoba, settling in Gladstone and taking over the family insurance business – Sorenson Agencies – started by Jim’s late father. Life in Gladstone was very busy managing the business while raising their children Kimberly and Jonathan. Linda was also active in the community, serving on boards, curling, and participating in various community events.

In 1999, they decided to sell the business and follow their children to Winnipeg, settling in Charleswood. Linda began working for Morris Insurance and eventually became Office Manager. She made many friends with her co-workers and had a special relationship with Dave and Nancy Morris. This past fall, Linda retired and enjoyed a wonderful evening with her office co-workers.

Linda was a caring and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.  She loved spending weekends with her family in Lac du Bonnet, and especially her cousin Ellen, with whom she remained close all her life.

Intelligent, beautiful and witty, Linda had a laugh that could light up a room. She could let her hair down and loved the family annual Beer & Skits in Lac du Bonnet. She also had a quiet confidence and was a great listener, and as a result, people were drawn to her.

Linda loved her family above all else. Her children and grandchildren gave her immense pleasure, and she loved sharing stories, photos and videos with friends and family. She loved taking shopping trips to Grand Forks/Fargo with her sisters and cousin Ellen. In 2018, she enjoyed a memorable winter vacation with her sisters to St. Lucia to attend her nephew’s wedding.

Linda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Grace Hospital Emergency Room and ICU for their exceptional care and kindness during a difficult time.

A Celebrate of Life is to be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lac du Bonnet Legion Hall at 45 McArthur Avenue, Lac du Bonnet.  Interment will follow at the Brightstone Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Scleroderma Association of Manitoba.

Rest in Peace Linda/Mom. Even though you left us too soon, we know your spirit will live on in all of us.
