Lloyd Smith, aged 84 years, passed away December 29, 2024, in the arms of his loving wife Clara (Clare), at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home in Steinbach, MB.
Lloyd was the eldest of 12 children. He was a very hard worker all his life. He was a jack-of-all-trades; there was not much that man could not do, like small engine and vehicle repair. He drove the huge mining trucks and had taken courses in operating heavy equipment. He built our home on our little acreage in Molson, MB. He often said those years were the happiest he’d ever been. We lived there for 29 years until declining health forced us to sell and move. At one point he had attended a 2-room country school in Golden Bay, MB. The family moved to Ontario. Lloyd was a trapper, hunter and guide. He eventually joined the Military and married. He travelled overseas with the Military and returned. He retired from the Military after 22 ½ years and settled in Chilliwack, BC. In 1986 he moved back to Manitoba and a year later he met me. His first words to me the first time he called was “are you the little blonde girl that got hit on the head with a baseball?” (at the Golden Bay school). It WAS me! Over the years, no matter where he was, he never forgot “that little blond girl”, although he had forgotten her name. We were engaged after 6 months and married 6 years later. The happiest years of our lives were spent in Molson, MB.
Lloyd enjoyed many hobbies. He loved woodworking and spent many happy hours in his workshop building and flying model airplanes along with his little buddy Justin, whom we raised for most of his first 12 years. He did relief wood carving and building things. He, like too many other members of his family, enjoyed being a prankster.
He will be very sadly missed by his beloved wife Clara of 31 years and his beloved grandson Justin. He is survived by his 5 children: Gerry (Myrna), Kim (Brett), Gina (Nathan), Rhonda and Lisa. He has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Faye, Theresa, Tracey and Tammy and brothers Ron, Wayne and Terry. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Elsie, 2 brothers Clifford and Roger and 2 sisters Barbara and Marion.
Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
