Manfred Gunther Rueckert

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Manfred Gunther Rueckert, at the age of 89 on January 6, 2022.

Dad was born in Schlesien Germany to Alfred and Else Rueckert on February 6th, 1932. Dad is survived by his children Marianne Mester of Germany; Alfred Rueckert (Jeanne) of Winnipeg; Alvin Rueckert (Zenda)of Beausejour; Nancy Sharpe (Rob) of Beausejour; and Debbie Rueckert (Darron) of Steinbach; one sister Helga Buchman of Germany; brother and sister in laws John and Gisella Broek of Beausejour; Bernadine Mueller of Beausejour; Eddie and Agnes Hiller also of Beausejour; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Dad was predeceased by his wife Greitje, his parents Alfred and Else Rueckert, son Gerhard, sister Inge Ohsterloh brother in laws Okko and Hermann Broek and sister in laws Gretchen, Hermina, and Jannet.

At an early age dad immigrated to West Germany, and worked on a farm where he met Greitje Broek, who he would eventually marry in 1953.  Mom and dad immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Whitemouth.  Dad worked for the Manitoba Highways Department for thirty-five years before retiring in 1992.  One of Dad’s loves was birds of any kind.  For many years he raised everything from canaries to peacocks.  Animals of any kind usually brought a smile to his face.  He and Mom relocated to Beausejour in 2003, where they resided before health reasons forced their final move to East Gate Lodge.

Dad was a kind-hearted, humours, soft spoken, hard-working man who always supported the family he loved so dearly.  We never heard a mean word come from him.  He was a man of deep faith throughout his life.  Family meant the world to Dad, and we his children thought we had won a lottery if he actually remembered the name of his grand children.  He loved family functions where he would be inundated by his grandchildren because everyone loved to talk to Opa.

We the family would also like to our express our gratitude to the staff at East Gate Lodge for the love, attention, and respect that they gave Dad during his stay with them.

Dad you will always live on in the hearts of your children and grandchildren, and you will never be forgotten. We love you Dad, enjoy your new home. Rest in peace you wonderful man.
