1929 – 2019
With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret Heckert, on June 6, 2019, at the age of 90.
She was predeceased by her loving husband William in 1989, her daughter Darlene in 1952, her son Durwin in 1981, and her son Dennis in 2014. She was also predeceased by her parents, August and Minnie, and brothers and sisters.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: daughter in-law Bev Neisteter; Darrell (Susan Antymis); Sharlynne (Dave) Mariash and their children Larissa (Matt) and their children Troy, Eden and Farrah; Shayla and Kristopher; Darren (Donna) and their children Candyce (Matt), Kristen (Carter), Tyson; Lorinda Tripp and her children Jemaine and Preslie. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Our mother was born in the R.M. of Brokenhead on March 21, 1929. As a child, she walked to and from the one-room school in Glenmoor to get her education.
What a surprise it must have been when she discovered that the love of her life lived about a mile away. She and William (Bill) were married on May 5, 1951, a union which blessed them with six children.
Mom’s work ethic, dedication to her family and pursuit of many interests provided us with excellent examples to base our own lives on. We remember her large garden and a pantry filled with canned fruits and vegetables which were also shared with extended family and friends. She enjoyed family Sunday dinners and traditional Christmas dinners.
Mom loved to crochet, and many babies have worn her layettes and christening gowns.
Mom was a proud Grandmother and great-Grandmother.
We appreciated that she welcomed our friends into her home and enjoyed their visits with “Mrs. H.” She also had a special place in her heart for small dogs and her cats.
Her life was faith based which provided her with inspiration, solace and comfort.
Many thanks to the staff at East Gate Lodge for the many years of care and compassion.
Funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one-hour prior. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined and a donation may be made to either the East Gate Lodge Recreation Fund, Alzheimer Society Manitoba or Zion Lutheran Church.
Offer Condolence for the family of Margaret Heckert (nee Schwark)
