Margarete Katharina (Margot) Bach

August 12, 1939 to February 15, 2011

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (oma) and friend Margot Bach at the age of 71 years old.

She was predeceased by her parents Rosina and Edmund, brother Helmut and husband Ludwig.

Margot is survived by her children; John, (Sharon), Andy (Evelyn), and Mary-Anne (Craig). She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Lucas, Patricia, Robert, Trent, Jade, Graceylynn, Cory and many dear friends.

Margot was born in Beulich, Germany on August 12, 1939 She got married on August 13th , 1960 in Boppard, Germany and then she and her husband embarked on a grand adventure and immigrated to Canada. The new couple moved to Manitouwadge, Ontario where they started their family and then to Merritt, BC and finally in 1975 they settled in Bissett, Manitoba.

Mom was a little unsure of her new home, not quite used to a town that small but she developed many wonderful friendships that lasted over her lifetime.

She loved gardening and had the greenest thumb of anyone you ever met. And it wasn’t enough to just have one garden – she had to have three and you wouldn’t find a stray weed in any of them. Her big yard was her pride and joy and she liked nothing better then people stopping at the top of the driveway to take pictures of her beautiful flowers and well manicured lawn. Any given day in the summer you could find her on her trusty John Deere making sure the lawn stayed in top shape. Her authentic German cooking and baking was delicious and loved by many, especially favourites like her famous pancakes, strawberry shortcake and plum cake. It wouldn’t have been Christmas without her shortbread cookies and cinnamon buns that were beyond compare. And I don’t know what we will do without the buns she made for Christmas Eve dinner.

She loved music and listened to Elvis, Heintje, Andre Riu, Rita McNeil and many others. The only stipulation was “Not so loud!” She also enjoyed her Word Search Puzzles and would do them into the wee hours of the morning.

She worked harder then anyone I know and took great pride in her work as a cleaning lady for the Hotel San Antonio and then the Bissett Gold Mine in later years. She always would volunteer at community events and anywhere else she could provide a helping hand. She also babysat for families in Bissett and the kids loved their “Oma”.

Mom could be spotted every day at the ladies coffee table in Wynne’s Place and thoroughly enjoyed this daily get-to-gether with her friends. Mom was heartbroken when her two nearest and dearest friends, Candy and Jose, passed on – and deeply missed their presence at the table and even more so in her life.

Mom was so proud of her kids and grandkids. Her home was filled with pictures of her family and she loved nothing more then when her kids would touch base or visit or she could go see them. She always looked forward to her nightly phone calls with her daughter.
Mom was plagued with vascular disease in her late fifties and made many lifestyle changes. She was very proud to be alcohol free for almost 12 years and cigarette free for even longer. Her strength was an inspiration to us.

As her health declined she finally had to make the agonizing decision in 2008 to move away from her beloved Bissett and closer to healthcare in Powerview. This was a very difficult time as she missed her home and friends dearly.

However, mom was not one to stay down for long and it didn’t take her long to make new friends and find new things to do. She volunteered at Sunnywood Manor Personal Care and Wings of Power Community and Family Resource Centre. This was a very enriching time in her life. Few people probably know that one of mom’s greatest unfulfilled wishes was to be a nurse.

Sadly, mom’s health issues finally got the best of her and now she is a place with no pain and is reunited with her family and friends that have gone before her.

A celebration of Margot’s life will be held at the Bissett Community Hall, Bissett Manitoba at 2 pm on Friday February 18th. Susan Spindler will be officiating.
